Blotter 4/27: Man steals phone from Hecky’s

A customer stole a cellphone from Hecky’s Barbecue on Tuesday, police said.

Evanston police were dispatched to Hecky’s Barbecue of Evanston, 1902 Green Bay Road, around midnight on Tuesday for a report of theft.

An employee of the restaurant stated that a male customer in his 20s purchased food with a credit card Monday afternoon. The man then placed a Motorola Xoom device in his backpack and fled in an unknown direction, EPD Cmdr. Tom Guenther said.

Apartment break-in reported in south Evanston

Someone broke into an apartment in south Evanston, police said.

EPD responded to the 500 Block of Michigan Avenue to investigate a theft in an apartment Monday afternoon.

Officers spoke with a witness who said someone broke into his neighbor’s apartment, Guenther said.

Upon examination, the door frame appeared to be damaged, probably from a pry tool device, Guenther said.

Officers checked the apartment and believe the intruder had gone through the apartment.

Neighbors reported loud banging noises between 5:13 p.m. and 6 p.m. which may have been from the entry.

Neighbors also reported seeing a blonde male in his 50s, 160 lbs, 5’10” in height.

The man was seen wearing blue jeans and a jacket, walking behind the apartment building.
