Drop deadline pushed back three days due to blizzard

Students will have an extra three days to drop classes this quarter due to a historic blizzard that led to canceled classes and postponed midterms.

The new drop deadline for all students on the Evanston campus is Monday, Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. The previous deadline was 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11.

Gabby Daniels, the academic vice president of the Associated Student Government, pushed the Office of the Registrar to make the change.

“Because of the snowstorm a few professors and students told me that they were worried that they wouldn’t get their grades back before the drop deadline because their midterms were moved,” Daniels wrote in an e-mail. “So I emailed the Registrar and they said that they would change the drop deadline.”

Classes were canceled Wednesday after a blizzard dumped 20.2 inches of snow on Evanston. The cancellation, the first such move at NU since 1979, forced professors to postpone several midterms.
