Unknown man enters Northwestern student’s bedroom

An unidentified man entered a Northwestern student’s apartment in the 2100 block of Maple Avenue on Saturday.

The student said she woke up in her bedroom at approximately 7:10 a.m. to see a stranger standing near her, according to a University news release. He then immediately left without saying anything.

There is no detailed description of the man.

Police arrest suspect who escaped after shooting in July

The suspect in an Evanston shooting that occurred in July was arrested Wednesday.

Yeshua Camel Jones, 39, was identified last year as a potential suspect of a shooting in the 1900 block of Howard Street but detectives were unable to locate him, according to an Evanston Police Department news release. A verbal confrontation between the victim and Jones took a turn for the worse when Jones took out his handgun and began firing at the victim.

The victim was shot in the lower right side of his back, after which he began yelling for help and took cover among parked cars nearby. Jones escaped the scene in his truck.

Paramedics responded to the police call and sent the victim to a local hospital for further treatment, according to the press release. Upon identifying Jones, police issued a warrant for his arrest for aggravated battery with a firearm.

Jones was taken into custody without incident. He is due in court Jan. 31 in Skokie.
