Having settled in Evanston 45 years ago, I was dismayed to find myself referred to in yesterday’s Daily as a “non-student resident.” This may seem like a trivial semantic issue, but it does reinforce the erroneous notion that other longtime residents and myself are interlopers in a student neighborhood – the West Campus, as it’s often called, unhappily enough. Better you refer to us as pioneers, sodbusters, or ancient non-Greeks. Or best yet, for the sake of journalistic accuracy, why not simply make it residents and student residents?
