A gas danger alarm activated at the Technological Institute, 2145 Sheridan Road, didn’t signify any threat or damage Sunday morning, police said.
UP and Evanston fire department officials responded to the alarm, which was activated by a computer, around 3:50 a.m., UP DeputyChief Dan McAleer said.
Officials notified the lab manager and a professor to the alarm’s activation, McAleer said. When the lab manager arrived, she said between 2:30 and 3:50 p.m. that day she had conducted a test using a gas tank containing sulfur dioxide. After completing the test, the lab manager said she had made certain to close both valves on the gas tank.
Officials could not locate a source of a gas leak. The valves on the gas tank were closed, and there was no odor, McAleer said.
Facilities Management is looking into why the alarm was activated.
