Sigma Chi fraternity to bring hip-hopper Shwayze to campus

As part of Sigma Chi’s annual Derby Days fundraiser, Shwayze will take the stage in Norris University Center’s Louis Room Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.

Proceeds from the event, sponsored in part by Northwestern’s Residence Hall Association, will benefit the Children’s Miracle Network, an organization that supports children’s hospitals.

The last artist Sigma Chi brought to campus for Derby Days was The Hood Internet in 2008.

Derby Days is a week-long fundraiser of mostly sorority competitions, including the popular Hot Tub Marathon, for which hot tubs are set up on the porch of the fraternity house.

“It’s a week to raise awareness of Children’s Miracle Network and also raise a lot of money,” said Ben Shorofsky, the Derby Days chair and a McCormick junior.

The fraternity hopes to initially sell about 500 tickets for the event, which go on sale Oct. 20. They will cost $5 for RHA residents and $7 for other students. Students can purchase tickets from members of Sigma Chi and at RHA Munchies events.
