Man steals women’s clothes, shoes from store by hiding items in jacket

A man stole clothing and women’s shoes from a store by slipping them under his jacket Sunday afternoon, police said.

A loss prevention officer at A.J. Wright, 1916 Dempster Ave., said he saw a man selecting and concealing multiple articles of clothing and shoes in his jacket, Cmdr. Tom Guenther of the Evanston Police Department said.

The loss prevention officer said he asked the man to return to the store after he walked past the last cashier, but the man ran eastbound with about $50 worth of merchandise, Guenther said.

Unknown attacker lashes out with belt buckle, wounding man on forehead

Someone hit a man in the forehead with a belt buckle early Saturday morning, police said.

Police arrived around 1:30 a.m. to find the victim bleeding from a cut on his forehead outside a residence on the 1100 block of Hartrey Avenue, Guenther said. He was treated on the scene by Evanston Fire Department officials and then transported to a local hospital.

Witnesses said they heard people arguing outside around the time of the attack. The victim did not specify what happened before the attack, and neither he nor witnesses could provide a description of the attacker, Guenther said.
