A&O presents “Shutter Island”-McCormick Auditorium, 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., $3
If you haven’t seen Martin Scorsese’s latest thriller yet, or just like watching Leonardo DiCaprio’s mouth move, A&O is presenting four showings of “Shutter Island” this weekend in. Which is appropriate, because at some time or another, that Tech lecture hall has felt like a prison you can’t escape.
Dearborn Observatory Public Viewing-2131 Tech Drive, 9 p.m., FREE
The observatory is open for public viewing every Friday from 9 to 11 p.m. during the spring and summer, so why not take advantage now that the weather is good? Or at least here’s to hoping. Reservations are necessary for the first hour, or you can get there late for some unscheduled star-gazing.
Dengue Fever-The Empty Bottle (1035 N. Western Ave.), 10 p.m., $15
Catch this psychedelic rock band that infuses traditional Cambodian music with rock ‘n’ roll, ’60s surf and funk. The group strives for the sound of the rock ‘n’ roll wave that raged through Cambodia in the ’60s and ’70s after American troops brought along their music. Cambodian lead singer Chhom Nimol gets the sound exactly right; the band comes off a recent performance at the Coachella Music Festival.
“A Midsummer Night’s Dream”-TI (1949 Campus Drive), 8 p.m., $10
Catch the TI main stage show, a classic Shakespearean comedy we all read in high school (right?) with a twist. This production is set in 1960s New Orleans, toying with the line between dreams and reality. But recommended for ages 16 and older? Sounds like a definite upgrade from the AP English version.
