Man throws wooden flower box on vehicle, flees area

Someone threw a wooden flower box at a parked vehicle early Monday morning, police said.

The perpetrator fled the area on foot when a witness approached him, Evanston Police Department Cmdr. Tom Guenther said.

Police arrived at the 1400 block of Sherman Avenue at 1:48 a.m. to find a wooden box of flowers and dirt on the windshield of a silver Dodge Stratus, Guenther said. The witness described the offender to police as a white male wearing a blue jacket and black shorts.

“The area was checked for someone that fit that description, but with negative results,” Guenther said. “They were never able to find anyone in relation to that.”

Car spray painted with gang-related pitchfork symbol

Someone spray painted a green pitchfork symbol on a car, police said.

An unknown offender painted the symbol on the right side of a blue 1991 Toyota at an unknown date and time, Guenther said. The car’s owner reported the damaged vehicle Monday.

Police said there are no suspects at this time.

“The police most likely won’t follow up on that unless there are a series of these symbols,” Guenther said.

The pitchfork symbol was most likely gang-related, he said.
