Northwestern lacrosse ties game with 50 seconds left, wins in OT 11-8

After rain came and went at Lakeside Field Friday night, with 7:31 remaining in the match between Northwestern and Virginia, play was suspended due to lightning.

The Wildcats would have lost to the Cavaliers had play not resumed.

But it did, and NU made the most of it.

Danielle Spencer scored the equalizer with 50.2 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. Then in the extra period, Katrina Dowd scored twice and Shannon Smith put in another goal to complete a 4-0 NU run after the delay.

It was the first home overtime game for NU since 2004.

Check back for more updates Monday.
