Purple Haze singer John Park still going strong on Idol, advances to top 24

“John Park, welcome to the top 24,” one of the “American Idol” judges said Wednesday night.

Weinberg junior John Park was selected as one of the top 24 competitors on season nine of FOX’s “American Idol.”

A few weeks ago, FOX showed Park screaming on the streets of Chicago after he got past the first round interview. Last night he was far from home screaming on the streets of Hollywood, on his way toward a new life in the final rounds of “American Idol.”

“I think it’s ill, yo,” Communication senior Jordan Looney said. “It’s always cool when Northwestern students perform. There are so many talented people here.”

Although some students admit to not being fans of the show itself, most are interested because of Park.

“I wouldn’t really care about the show if it weren’t for him,” Communication freshman Amelia Hefferon said. “It’s important that we all support him.”

Park has a huge support system at NU and on Facebook, where his fan page has more than 7,500 fans.

“I hope he makes the top 12,” Communication Sophomore Ashley Darhalo said. “I’ll definitely keep up with how he’s doing.”
