Student reports several threatening e-mails, calls

A male Northwestern student reported an incident of harassment, police said.

The student, a resident of Communications Residential College, 1855 Sheridan Rd., received more than 30 threatening e-mails, text messages and phone calls, said Dan McAleer, university deputy chief of police.

The threats made violent references to the victim, McAleer said.

The case remains under investigation.

Pile of burning leaves found outside of Slivka

University Police and the Evanston Fire Department responded to a fire call at Slivka Hall, 2332 Campus Dr., on Monday night, McAleer said.

Observers saw smoke coming from the east side of the building, police said.

A burning pile of leaves, 10 feet deep, was found under grates outside, McAleer said.Evanston Fire officials put out the fire and searched the basement of Slivka for other sources of fire and found nothing, police said.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, McAleer said.

Residence burglarized, electronics, TV stolen

An Evanston resident reported a burglary Monday morning, police said.

The front door of the residence on the 1300 block of Wesley Avenue was found kicked open, Evanston Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said.

It appears the suspects used brute force to open the door, Guenther said.

The burglars stole electronics, including a television, a game system and a computer, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.
