The RedHawks have won one game in their last 14 tries. Of those 13 losses, they came within 10 points of their opponent just twice. This isn’t going to be a repeat of Duke circa 2007. Mike Kafka is too good, and the defense figured something out last week.

This game is important to Fitz on multiple levels, and it showed in practice this week. The Cats are not content with the way they beat Purdue, and for good reason. Expect NU to try to establish its running game early and figure out its offensive line issues. As long as they don’t let up and play down to the competition, the Cats should be 4-2 heading into the remainder of Big Ten play.

After their last four games came down to the wire, the Wildcats should come away with an easy victory on Saturday. Key word, should. NU had a “down” game offensively last week, but Kafka and Co. will have a monster performance this week against an atrocious RedHawks defense. Look for the Cats’ offense to dominate on Saturday, and hope the defense can follow suit.

Having a non-conference game in the middle of the Big Ten season isn’t ideal, but the RedHawks are a favorable opponent. They don’t do anything particularly well, giving up 40 points per game while turning the ball over 18 times. There’s always the potential for a letdown, but the Cats have started slow too many games in a row to do so again. NU will jump out to a big lead, then spend the second half working out the kinks in the running game.
