Bluegrass-jam band Tea Leaf Green will headline Philfest 2009, co-sponsored by Students for Ecological and Environmental Development and A&O. Philfest will be held Sunday, May 17 on the Norris University Center’s East Lawn, according to the event’s organizers.
“Philfest has a certain vibe about it and we thought Tea Leaf Green really played to that,” said Communication sophomore Barry McCardel, A&O’s promotions and public relations co-chair. “We’re trying to position it as a baby Dillo Day. We hope that people will be able to go out to the Norris east lawn, chill out and listen to some great bands.”
Philfest was conceived as a tribute to McCormick student Phillip Semmer, who died in a car accident in summer 2000 while visiting Australia. The event is devoted to environmental awareness.
“We hope that people will walk away thinking a little more about the environment and what’s going on around them,” McCardel said.
The concert will also feature the Giving Tree Band, The Gentlemen of NUCO and a soon-to-be-announced band.
