The producers of Koppel on Discovery premiere their documentary People’s Republic of Capitalism at the McCormick Tribune Center Forum from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. PRC covers all the bases of China’s economic explosion and its effects on Chinese life. The series focuses on U.S.-China economic ties and examines the harmful effects of the spread of capitalism in the world’s largest (communist) country.
FRIDAYMcKEANS OPENING AT 3WALLS
The opening reception for Michael Jones McKean, artist in residence at the Three Walls Gallery (119 Peoria #2A/2D Chicago), goes from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. McKeans, winner of numerous grants, fellowships, and residencies across the country, will show his latest collection of assemblages and bricolaged work. Sort through the web of McKean’s work at one of Chicago’s premiere contemporary galleries.
SATURDAYWONDER AT TASTE OF CHICAGO
Taste of Chicago, the city’s biggest cultural food event runs June 27 through July 6. The event is an annual attraction for area foodies and run-of-mill hungry citizens. The event, which includes food from dozens of area restaurants, centers around Grant Park, where free concerts are held on four stages. Saturday’s performances run from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. See Stevie Wonder’s performance at 5:30 p.m.
SUNDAYPULL OUT FEATHERS, GLITTER
It’s that time of year again – Pride month is wrapping up with another major Chicago event, the 39th Annual Pride Parade. The event begins at the corner of Halsted & Belmont at noon and progresses along Halsted, Broadway, and Diversey and ends in Lincoln Park. Pride ’08 is led by rights activist and ex-Marine Eric Alva. Take along a few friends and meet the parade somewhere on its path to catch a glimpse at Chicago Pride.
