Women’s Golf: Freshman’s hole-in-one is highlight of tourney

Northwestern finished 13th out of 15 teams at the Central District Invitational on Tuesday, but for one Wildcats golfer, the number of the day was one.

Freshman Rebecca Lederhausen sunk the first hole-in-one of her career and the third in program history at the team’s first tournament of the spring season in Parrish, Fla. Lederhausen accomplished the feat on the fifth hole, a par-3, 164-yarder, using a 5-iron.

Although the ace briefly pushed her to 1-under par, Lederhausen fell back to 5-over by the end of the round, shooting a 77. She finished a team-best 18th out of 75 golfers at the three-round event, with a 13-over 229 (78-74-77).

As a team, NU placed ahead of only Baylor and Kansas State, finishing with a 75-over 939, 47 strokes behind host Michigan State.

Junior Jennifer Hong was the second NU golfer on the leader board, finishing 34th with an 18-over 234. She was followed by senior Katie Trachok and freshman Kelsey Lindenschmidt, who placed in a tie for 50th at 23-over. Junior Justina Yu finished 64th at 29-over.

The Cats see action next at the Texas A&M “Mo”Morial in Bryan, Texas on March 7.
