Dago Red, Ruth Buzzy, and Andrew Bailie @ the Double Door
Free shows are rare; wanting to take advantage of them is only natural. But Thursday night at the Double Door isn’t Simon and Garfunkel in Central Park. Dago Red are hard rocking Italians that like “cheap wine and easy women.” Bring some Franzia and you might get lucky, but you’ll need half the box to enjoy it. Ruth Buzzy sounds like someone taking a piss in Fountains of Wayne. Save your El fair and YouTube “Stacy’s Mom.”

Mic Terror, Million Dolla Mano, Yea Big + Kid Static, and Shala @ Subterranean $10
Friday night at Subterranean won’t be special for hip-hop. You’ll hear hot beats and misogynistic slow jams for the ladies. Mic Terror is corporate rap on an indie budget. Yea Big + Kid Static are a hipster producer/ MC combo and the highlight of the evening. Shala runs the marketing company hosting tonight’s artists, he’s a business first and a rapper second. The show’s only 10 bucks, but he’ll try to swindle more.
Saturday, Feb. 2
Das Kapital, Reptoids, Scale Model, and Hidden Mitten @ Beat Kitchen – $8
Das Kapital’s classic punk will let you relive the best parts of the ’80s, while sound ingfresh. Reptoids are a goth punk outfit not unlike the Scream trilogy-they try to be scary, but are funny instead, with some sex appeal. Scale Model is indie-snore to the core. If you stay awake through their set, you’ll definitely catch a band member nodding off onstage. Getting stoned and making a White Hen run would be a better way to spend $8.

Liars and No Age @ the Metro -$16
According to Pitchfork, you’re supposed to like Liars and No Age because they’re mixing music and art in new ways. But music is art, so when you hear the two are being mixed, be wary. This usually means music with a strong helping of pretension, which is the case with both Liars and No Age. Regardless, Liars is sure to put on a worthy $16 show, even if there’s not one true song in the whole damn thing. But if you want to see No Age, it’d be best to save your money for Times New Viking on the Feb. 17.
