Campus politics story slanted against G.O.P.
Yesterday’s article, (“Campus Political Groups Fight Voters’ Apathy with Programs,” Monday) may have been the single most biased article I have seen during my time here at Northwestern … and I’ve seen my share of biased articles in The Daily. As the president of College Republicans, I have been misquoted, I have been referred to as a man, and I have now been silenced. A tip to you aspiring journalists out there: Don’t ask for an interview so that you can write a balanced article if you’re not going to use it to write one. It ticks snobby conservatives like myself off. Why a reporter would take twenty minutes out of my day for an unused interview when I could have been in a strategy meeting with my capitalist cronies trying to figure out how to get the biggest bang for our buck in Iraq, I just can’t figure. I would have much rather been driving my gas-guzzling SUV to the nearest bookstore so that I could pick up Ann Coulter’s new book had I known that you weren’t going to use any Republican quotes. I mean, that’s what we do, right? Since The Daily won’t report it, I guess I should. I know this may come as a shock to those of you living in the Northwestern bubble, but there are student groups out there for people who don’t support Obama, Clinton or Edwards. I know, crazy. Students signed up to be a part of every single Republican primary candidate’s campaign during the first College Republicans meeting. It may be a novel idea having more than three candidates represented on campus, but we just don’t believe in allowing the liberal media to dictate who our nominee will be. If you’re interested in helping out with a Republican campaign at any level, please feel free to contact NUCR at [email protected]. We’ll get you hooked up with the right people and keep you aware of any volunteer opportunities in the Chicagoland area. As for me, I have to start making fundraising calls since ASG cut our funding in half this year. But that’s another issue for another time.

Bailey article reveals Daily’s pro-NU bias
The story by Michael Gsovski and Sarah Sumadi Posted about the Bailey controversy was stunningly biased (“Report clearing prof leaves critics unsatisfied,” Oct. 19). I guess it’s to be expected that Wildcat reporters will favor Wildcat faculty. But this one was way too wild.
The reporters quoted Professor Bailey’s numerous scientific and activist opponents only to attack them. If they read beyond Bailey’s press releases they did not let any such facts into the story. The reporters had their story line – Northwestern professor loves attention, and isn’t that great? – from day one. Mr. Gsovski started his phone interview with me last week by asking how long I had been a transsexual activist. Heh, professor McCloskey, how long have you been beating your husband?
