It’s literally freezing outside, but Fizz Bar & Grill (3220 N. Lincoln Ave.) won’t let that minor detail stop the tiki party. This self-proclaimed “urban loft meets comfortable neighborhood bar” just north of Belmont serves up a big selection of tropical drinks every Sneaky Tiki Wednesday, a weekly reprieve from the winter doldrums.
Along with unique sultry drinks like the Coco-Naught (Jamaican rum, coconut with a hint of lime) and the Sacrificial Virgin (either a Blue Hawaiian, Mai-Tai or planters punch served in a flaming volcano bowl), Wednesdays are also live band karaoke night. Throw back a few Virgins and you’ll probably find yourself onstage singing sweetly, well, at least you thought so at the time.
If singing sounds sickening, maybe Black and Blue Mondays at Fizz are more your speed. For $5 you get a black angus burger and a pint of Blue Moon, with $2.50 refills. After swigging your beer, head upstairs for swing dancing.
The entertainment continues throughout the week at Fizz – Steve “Z” sings lounge tunes Tuesdays, “Star and Garter Burlesque” captivates Thursdays and DJs keep things hoppin in the main bar Fridays and Saturdays.
For the intense thought that goes into making that guest list, Fizz offers a decent-sized menu of food – for thought, of course. From classy pizzas like pesto, grilled steak or fontinella with artichokes and red peppers to tuna steak sandwiches, there is plenty of noteworthy grub to nicely compliment the 30 varieties of bottled beer and other cocktails.
Fizz Bar & Grill is located about two blocks North of the Paulina Brown Line El stop. It opens Mon-Fri at 5 p.m., Sat at noon and Sun at 11 a.m.
