Rockit Bar & Grill, 22 W. Hubbard St., is a refined and trendy bar/restaurant whose look is reminiscent of an L.A. lounge. Its modern interior, with an exposed ceiling, brick walls and rich, black colors, screams new age. The menus, too, are something to talk about: Old vinyl record jackets are used as covers. My waitress tells me the menus are so popular, in fact, that it’s not uncommon for patrons to steal them.
Brunch is offered Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The rest of the week, lunch is served 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and dinner is served after 4 p.m. every day. For an American bar, the menu boasts some surprisingly good dishes, including steak, chicken and fish. I would recommend the beef dip – mine definitely rocked it. Entree orders usually cost between $15 and $25.
In terms of spirits, Rockit’s full bar offers a wide variety of beers, with six different brews on tap and some classy bottled imports. Local brews, such as Goose Island Honker’s Ale and other domestic beers, are available as well. Plan on spending about $5 per beer.
Wines are also a major part of Rockit’s menu. You will find both relatively cheap and very expensive labels ($300 was the highest price I saw). Along with wines are Rocktails, Rockit’s signature drinks. A multitude of Rockitinis are available too. Both the Rocktails and Rockitinis averaged about $10.
The staff is young and trendy. On weekends, be ready to dress in style before coming here – it’s a good place to meet somebody. During the week, the vibe is more casual: There is outdoor seating for 22, and it’s a good place to grab lunch. Just be ready to spend more than you’d expect.
