Grier, teammates set for NCAA home-court edge (Women’s Tennis)

The No. 9 Northwestern women’s tennis team might have claimed the Big Ten Championship title for the eighth consecutive year, but that’s small news compared to what it looks to accomplish in the next few weeks

“There is nothing like the NCAAs,” senior Cristelle Grier said. “The atmosphere and seeing the players is great, and you’ve really just got the cream of the crop of America’s players.”

NU (21-4) will send three of its top singles players along with one doubles team to the NCAA singles and doubles competition this year, the most bids ever received in the program’s history.

NU also received the Big Ten automatic bid in the NCAA team competition. The Cats will host Illinois-Chicago (13-10) at 10 a.m. today at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center or the Combe Tennis Center if there is inclement weather.
