The Evanston Police Department received a call at about 8 a.m. Tuesday reporting a bomb threat at Evanston Township High School, Deputy Chief Joseph Bellino said.
No signs of a bomb were found after searching the school, Bellino said.
EPD relayed the threat to ETHS administrators, Bellino said. School officials implemented the school’s crisis plan and evacuated the building, at 1600 Dodge Ave., he said.
Police and ETHS staff searched the school for signs of suspicious activity but did not find any cause for alarm.
“Nothing out of the ordinary was detected during the sweep of the building,” Bellino said.
The building was declared clear at about 9:15 a.m. Students and faculty returned to continue classes, Bellino said.
“The security staff (at ETHS) are well-trained,” Bellino said. “This is something they are trained to respond to and it went very smoothly.”
EPD has several leads and the incident is under investigation, Bellino said.
The school was evacuated last October after another threat had been been called into the school. A search of the school in that incident uncovered one suspicious bag, but EPD ruled that it was harmless.
