NEWS BRIEFS

An arraignment date has been set for a man charged with the sexual assault and kidnapping of an Evanston woman last month.

Anthony Darnell McNeal, 27, is scheduled to appear in Circuit Court in Skokie at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 26, when he will be asked to enter a plea.

McNeal was arrested Sept. 18 and charged with aggravated kidnapping, home invasion, armed robbery and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault.

McNeal has requested a trial. He is being held without bond.

McNeal allegedly held a woman at knifepoint in her apartment building on the 900 block of Sherman Avenue on Sept. 9, according to the Evanston Police Department.

Police say McNeal forced himself into her apartment and sexually assaulted her twice. He then took cash and jewelry from her building and walked with her at knifepoint to the El stop on Main Street, police said.

He forced her to withdraw money from three different ATMs in Chicago and used her cash to buy shoes and clothing at a sporting goods store, before releasing her on the El, police said.
