LaSalle teller charged with stealing from ATM

A senior teller at LaSalle Bank, 1336 Chicago Ave., was arrested and charged Thursday with stealing more than $3,000 from an ATM at the bank over a three-month period, police said.

Jorge L. Rodriguez, 29, of 2900 block of N. Melvina Avenue, Chicago, is charged with felony theft.

Video cameras recorded a man, later identified as Rodriguez, stealing from an ATM inside the bank, said Deputy Chief Joe Bellino of Evanston Police Department.

A female security officer for LaSalle told police that money was stolen from the ATM on multiple occasions from Jan. 19 to April 20. The security officer notified police of the theft.

Rodriguez could not be reached for comment Tuesday. Bank employees did not return a request for comment.

Bellino said he couldn’t remember a similar incident happening in “recent memory.”

“You are more likely to see internal theft with retail businesses,” Bellino said. “Theft like that is more common than from a financial institution.”

Rodriguez is scheduled to appear before the Circuit Court in Skokie on May 13.
