As a student with limited funds and a penchant for the arts, hitting up all of the great theater Chicago has to offer is an impossible feat.
But in February the League of Chicago Theatres initiated a weekly event to make the hunt for theater outings less daunting. Now Theater Thursdays offer a different Chicago production each week with discounted tickets, special events (including cocktail receptions … hmmm) and behind-the-scenes tours of some of Chicago’s historic theaters.
Theater Thursdays was launched to strengthen young theater audiences in Chicago by giving them inexpensive opportunities to experience great theater. Discounting tickets and providing exclusive access to behind-the-scenes events and opening receptions is not only a means of attracting young people on a budget to the theater but also heightening their experience, willing them back.
Start planning ahead — tickets may go fast.
On March 3 Theater Thursdays is taking willing audiences to “The Last Two Minutes of the Complete Works of Henrik Ibsen” at the Neo-Futurarium, 5153 N. Ashland Ave. Tickets, costing a mere $10 to $15, include admission to a beer and wine reception and a discussion with Greg Allen, the show’s writer and founding director.
On March 10 participants head over to the Chopin Theatre, 1543 W. Division St., for an Iraqi-war themed “Guinea Pig Solo.” A $10 to $25 ticket will get you into the pre-show reception with playwright Brett C. Leonard and director Anthony Moseley.
