July 8/Second City
Second City Theatricals and GayCo Productions present a new sketch comedy show, “Weddings of Mass Destruction,” about contemporary gay issues. It will probably make fun of gay people, but in that satirical way that makes it OK. The Victory Gardens Theater, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave., at 8:30 p.m. with shows continuing Thursday through Sunday until Aug. 15. $15.
July 9-11/Greek festival
The St. Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church is holding its 43rd Annual Greek Festival. Come celebrate Greek culture and get a first-hand look at all that food, music and dancing you fell in love with the first time you saw “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.” Plus on Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. you get $1 beers. Opah! 5649 N. Sheridan Road. $2.
July 10/Wrigleyville SummerFest
A fun-filled day of music, food, beer and kids’ activities hosted by the Resurrection Lutheran Church. Come for Zobo the Clown at noon, stay for the music until 10 p.m. School Street and Seminary Avenue. $5.
July 10/Bastille Day Festival
This festival and street fair is sponsored by the Pops for Champagne restaurant at 2934 N. Sheffield Avenue. From 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. they will be serving crepes, champagne, sparkling wine and all those other things we love about the French. And don’t miss the live bands starting at 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. No cover.
July 10/Nickelback and 3 Doors Down
The aforementioned bands will be performing their disgraceful Pearl Jam imitations at the Tweeter Center, 19100 S. Ridgeland Ave. in Tinley Park. Doors open at 5 p.m. and they seem to think they are going to get $23 for lawn seats. Is there no end to the suffering? If you don’t attend, they will, in fact, be here without you.
July 10/Drinking and Writing volume II
This Neo-Futurists show at T’s Restaurant and Bar, 5025 N. Clark Street, explores the connection between creativity and alcohol during the Prohibition years. Perhaps without alcohol “Hooverville” really was the best name the muckrakers could conceive. Show at 7 p.m. with repeat performances on July 15, 24 and 29. $8 — $12.
July 12/Killradio
President Bush haters Killradio will be opening for Your Enemies Friends along with Burning Bright and Read Yellow at the Subterranean, 2011 W. North Ave. They claim they are “not a political band … just a band with good politics.” Sounds like they’re not so much an unknown band … just a band that is the first of three openers. We’ll see. Show at 9 p.m. $7.
