Men’s swim team to welcome Notre Dame in dual matchup
The Northwestern men’s swimming team will face off against Notre Dame on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Sports Pavilion and Aquatics Center.
It will be the Wildcats’ final non-conference meet before closing out their schedule against Big Ten opponents No. 9 Michigan and Iowa.
NU handled the Irish fairly easily last year, 172-126, and with the way this year’s squad has been tearing up the pool, the Cats are looking for a big showing Saturday.
Last weekend freshman Matt Grevers recently broke NU’s pool record in the 200-yard backstroke.
His 1:46.98 destroyed the previous pool record of 1:47.49
Senior Mark Hamming has made a name for himself on the national level in the 200 butterfly with a sixth-place ranking. The senior’s 200 individual medley time ranks 12th in the nation.
The Cats’ relay teams have been their bread and butter and rank among the nation’s fastest as well. The 400 freestyle relay team sits at fourth, while the 200 free relay team is ranked 13th.
