BREAKING: Student charged with faking hate allegations

Evanston police arrested Communication freshman Jaime Alexander Saide, known as Xander, on Monday night and charged him in the fabrication of police reports.

Saide told police that he had been held at knifepoint Nov. 8 and threatened with a racial slur. A statement released today from William Banis, vice president for student affairs, said Saide admitted to lying about that incident as well as the racist graffiti that was found Nov. 4 near his dorm room in Chapin Hall.

“These fabricated incidents inflamed and upset the entire campus community needlessly,” Banis said in the statement.

The Daily has not yet reached Saide for comment.

Saide was charged with felony disorderly conduct in connection with the incidents. Evanston Police Department held a press conference at 4 p.m. today about the case.
