Cynical columnist misjudges true spirit of students at NU
Instead of having Lucy Madison’s name next to her “terribly annoying picture” every Thursday, could THE DAILY just put “Cynic-At-Large?” Not only did Madison’s pessimism make me cringe, but the fact she mistakenly equated hate with strong opinions and passion shows her desperation to provoke.
That’s lousy journalism. Instead of having given her readers the impression that it’s abnormal not to hate something or someone, she could have concentrated on highlighting what she thinks is a lack of “active” actions and “thoughtful” thoughts on campus.
However, any student who hasn’t been blindfolded during the time they’ve been at Northwestern knows that this campus is far from being “apathetic” and “dispassionate,” far from inactive and unthoughtful.
