Freshman offensive lineman involved in Michigan crash

Northwestern freshman Joe Tripodi was involved in a car crashMonday in Michigan but suffered no major injuries, The ChelseaStandard reported Thursday.

Tripodi, who is on the NU football team, was trapped beneath his1992 Chrysler LeBaron for four hours after driving off the road andstriking two trees in a town west of Ann Arbor, Mich. He was athome for the weekend to visit friends.

Tripodi dropped a friend off around 2:30 a.m. on Monday and wasthe only person in the car when it crashed on McKinley Road in LimaTownship, Mich. Michigan State Trooper Scott Singleton said alcoholand speed were contributing factors in the crash, according to theStandard.

After firefighters freed him, a Survival Flight helicopter flewTripodi to the University of Michigan Hospital. Tripodi bledprofusely from head wounds, a firefighter told the paper, but hewas released from the hospital Tuesday.

The 19-year-old offensive lineman redshirted for the Wildcatslast season. Tripodi was a standout athlete at Chelsea High Schoolin both track and football.

Tripodi was a “SuperPrep” All-Midwest Region prospect and wasnamed an all-state offensive lineman by the Associated Press.
