Cats guard Young won’t miss action due to dislocated finger

Northwestern guard Jitim Young practiced Monday and will play Wednesday against Indiana, a team spokesman said.

The announcement soothed fears that the star junior would be out for the season with a dislocated finger he suffered Saturday against Ohio State.

Young taped his dislocated left-middle finger to his index finger during practice. After the Ohio State game, he said he played with dislocated fingers in each of his first two seasons at NU, although never with pain like this one.

“It dislocated pretty bad, … probably the worst I’ve ever had,” he said Saturday.

Young hurt himself reaching for a defensive rebound in the beginning of the second half against the Buckeyes. He had to leave the game and wouldn’t return. NU, which was down 34-30, went on to lose 65-52 without Young.

“It really hurt,” Young said Saturday. “But not being out on the court and watching my team without me, that’s the worst pain of it all.”

Young is second on the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 11.6 points and 4.4 boards, and leads the team with 31 steals. He’s come on strong in Big Ten play, scoring 14.2 points per conference game before Saturday.
