Reserves get a chance to shine in perfect weekend

After hitting a couple of bumps in the road in past weeks, the fencing team cruised through its duals this weekend in Detroit, winning four matches and moving to 26-3 on the season.

“Having beaten all these teams before, we weren’t expecting to have much trouble, and we didn’t,” NU head coach Laurie Schiller said.

The Wildcats knocked off Detroit-Mercy, Michigan, Michigan State and host Wayne State on Sunday, while giving some of their alternates a chance to compete at the conference level. None of the four duals was close, with the Cats winning 24-3, 17-10, 21-6 and 22-5.
