United by blood, divided by past

Two sisters couldn’t have led more different lives. Separated as children, Rose immigrated to New York while Lusia remained in Poland, spending her later years in a concentration camp. After almost 20 years apart, they are reunited in 1946.

Barbara Lebow’s “A Shayna Maidel” is a story of forgiveness, a story of connection and a story of family. And it’s a story that the Jewish Theater Ensemble wanted to share.

“The whole point of the play is about forgiveness and learning to love and to move on and to live,” said director and Speech junior Jena Oberg. “This story is just so beautiful and so haunting and so worth telling.”
