Terrorist attacks are familiar occurrences in Israeli society
I would like to commend The Daily for printing Leeor Baskin’s emotional and timely column in yesterday’s paper.
The understanding of daily life within Israel is crucial now more than ever.
Yesterday, an Israeli was murdered and two more injured in a terrorist shooting attack. Last week Israel, with intelligence assistance from the United States, seized a vessel carrying 50 tons of weaponry – including anti-aircraft missiles, land mines, assault rifles and explosives – that was on its way to the Palestinian Authority. These weapons could have been used to murder scores of innocent Israeli men, women and children, without distinction.
Only a month ago, Jerusalem and Haifa were rocked by suicide bombings, killing innocent children and teenagers. In America, we used to take for granted the simplest components of our daily routine – eating in a pizza parlor or going out with friends to a discotheque on a Friday night.
But now we all share Israelis’ angst. We must live with the same fear of terrorism, of innocent blood spilling in the streets, of yet another Sept. 11. Now is the time to stand with our allies against terrorism and, together, continue the just fight to rid our world of barbarism and inhumanity.
