It was wrong for The Daily to print the David Horowitz anti-reparations advertisement. Publishing the ad cannot be defended on the grounds that it was paid for, because it was not an advertisement at all. Rather, it was an opinion piece. If The Daily wants to print racist opinions, at least have the decency to do it in a free and public forum.
We should never set the precedent that a rich person’s views get more circulation and more time than anybody else’s. That sort of speech is not free, but lopsided and oppressive.
I think in all fairness The Daily owes a free full-page ad to For Members Only or some other African-American school organization to respond if they wish to.
