Central St. coffee shop shuts down

A Central Street coffee shop and restaurant closed its doors Saturday, another victim of the area’s changing economic landscape.

After eight years of business, The Bean Counter Cafe, 1932 Central St., closed because it could not survive competition from establishments such as Starbucks Coffee that have opened nearby, said owners Ray LaMagna and Irene Dallianis.

The owners originally envisioned The Bean Counter as a neighborhood coffeehouse that would target coffee lovers of all ages and develop a regular customer base. But this dream gave way to harsh reality because older people don’t appreciate the caf
