Radio/Televison/Film students presented a petition to R/TV/F Chairwoman Mimi White Wednesday, calling for more film equipment and accessories.

Almost 215 students signed the petition, which will be presented to the rest of the department at an R/TV/F faculty meeting next week, White said.

The department has already passed a five-year equipment acquisition plan that will focus much of its resources on digital equipment.

But White said Wednesday that she told the students the plan includes some money for replacement film equipment as well.

“There’s a considerable amount of money devoted to film, lighting and grip equipment,” she said.

But Abby France, one of the organizers of the petition, said she will continue to push for more film equipment.

“We’re planning to send a letter to the new dean (Barbara O’Keefe) including the petitions and our concerns,” said France, a Speech freshman. “We hope to get her support in working with alumni to help with donating equipment.”

Associated Student Government passed a bill Wednesday urging the R/TV/F department to provide more film equipment for students.
