History and religion Prof. John Hunwick was listed in fair condition at Evanston Hospital late Tuesday after he collapsed Tuesday morning in a university parking garage.
A student found Hunwick about 10 a.m. on the top level of the parking garage located next to John J. Louis Hall, 1975 S. Campus Drive, according to a history department student employee.
A hospital spokeswoman said Hunwick will probably stay in the hospital for several days.
Hunwick had been teaching Islam in Africa, Islam Studies and a graduate course this quarter. The classes will probably be taught by another professor until Hunwick can return, said history department assistant Carmelita Rocha.
Hunwick researches the social and intellectual history of Islamic Africa. He received his doctorate degree in 1974 from the University of London.
