16-year-old Evanston resident shot in chest

A 16-year-old boy was shot late Saturday afternoon in central Evanston, police said.

Officers discovered the Evanston teen with a gunshot wound to his chest at about 4:40 p.m. near Lyons Street and Ashland Avenue — about two blocks from Evanston Township High School, according to a news release. The teen was taken to Evanston Hospital, and police said he was in stable condition.

Witnesses told police they saw two men fleeing the scene, according to the release.
