An 8-year-old boy reported to police Sunday afternoon that his bike was stolen from him at gunpoint.

The boy was in the 1300 block of Lake Street with his friend at about 4:30 p.m. when three boys — two teenagers and one who appeared to be 8 years old — pulled out what appeared to be a handgun or BB gun and demanded his bike, said Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan.

The boy then handed over his bike and the three other boys fled, Dugan said.

Cash stolen from south Evanston convenience store

About $200 was reported stolen from an Evanston store early Tuesday morning.

Police arrived at the Open Pantry convenience store in the 800 block of Dempster Street at about 2:30 a.m. after the alarm system was triggered, Dugan said. The cash register was discovered on the ground with $200 in cash missing, he said.

Police found the rear door ajar and suspect the burglar pried it open.
