Physical therapy machine stolen from retirement community

A device used for physical therapy was taken Monday from the main building of a senior living community in north Evanston.

A staff member at Westminster Place, 3200 Grant St., told police the therapeutic ultrasound device had been stolen some time during the day, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. The machine is worth more than $1,000, Dugan said.

Staff at the retirement community have yet to review the security camera footage, he added.

Teenage boy robbed of iPad

A 13-year-old male Evanston resident reported to police June 9 that his iPad and portable speakers were stolen from him by two other teenage boys.

The resident told police he was walking home from playing basketball near the corner of Main Street and McDaniel Avenue at around 7:30 p.m. when two boys approached him, Dugan said. The boys, around 16 years old, had been playing basketball at the same courts and threatened to take the resident’s possessions, he said.

The resident felt intimidated by the boys and gave them his white iPad with a blue case — worth about $500 — as well as his speakers, Dugan said. The boys then fled northbound on McDaniel Avenue, he added.
