A 48-year-old man has been arrested in connection with burglarizing vehicles in Evanston, police said.

Anthony Stewart, an Evanston resident, has been charged with burglary to a vehicle and theft of lost or mislaid property.

Police received a call on Friday at about 1:20 a.m. from a citizen who saw someone searching through a car in the 2100 block of Grant Street, police said. The caller identified Stewart after police located him.

Stewart said he took loose change from the unlocked vehicle, police said. Stewart also had other property in his possession that police believe to be from other vehicle burglaries. Detectives said some of the items were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 2400 block of Brown Avenue, police said. Police are still locating the owners of the rest of the property in Stewart’s possession that police believe to be stolen.

The date and time of Stewart’s court date has not been set yet.
