Evanston woman suffers life-threatening injuries in UPS truck crash

An Evanston woman who was struck by a delivery truck Monday night is in critical condition, police said.

A United Parcel Service truck hit the 30-year-old woman at about 5 p.m. as she crossed Ashland Avenue at its intersection with Central Street, police said.

Evanston firefighters freed the woman from where she was trapped under the truck, police said.

Officials transported the woman to Evanston Hospital, 2650 Ridge Ave., for treatment. As of 7:30 p.m., her injuries were considered life threatening, police said.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident. Police said the area around the intersection would be closed for two hours shortly after 7:30 p.m.
