Woman arrested in connection with theft of cleaning supplies

A 39-year-old woman was arrested Monday in connection with attempting to steal more than $235 worth of items from a Whole Foods grocery store, police said.

The woman placed bottles of essential oils and cleaning supplies in a black cloth bag she brought into the store, Evanston Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott said.

The woman was detained after failing to pay for the items at the checkout of the Whole Foods located at 1111 Chicago Ave., police said.

Phone stolen from Evanston elementary school

Police responded to a reported theft of a cell phone at an elementary school Monday afternoon.

The coral iPhone 5S was taken from a desk and belonged to a 25-year-old woman from Chicago, Parrott said.

The theft took place at Kingsley Elementary School, an Evanston/Skokie District 65 school, located at 2300 Green Bay Road.
