Big Ten suspends C.J. Robbins for punch against NIU

Northwestern junior defensive tackle C.J. Robbins has been suspended one game for throwing a punch late in the Wildcats’ game against Northern Illinois on Saturday, The Big Ten announced Tuesday.

Robbins was ejected with 4:30 to play in the 23-15 loss after hitting an opposing player.

The junior emerged from training camp as a starter and recorded one tackle in the season-opener against California.

Robbins will miss NU’s Sept. 20 game against Western Illinois, in which the 0-2 Cats will be heavily favored.

The suspension leaves NU thin at defensive tackle, with senior Sean McEvilly out for the season due to injury. Senior Chance Carter and sophomore Greg Kuhar will be the team’s likely starters at the position with Robbins out.
