Officers arrested an Evanston man Wednesday after finding a loaded gun in his possession, police said.
The arrest is a result of increased police presence in the area, Evanston Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott said in a news release. Police have boosted their violence reduction efforts in the aftermath of an uptick in gun activity in Evanston, including a 24-hour period in which two men were injured in separate shootings.
Detectives from Evanston Police Department’s special operations group stopped a car Wednesday afternoon in the 1600 block of Emerson Street. Police found a loaded .32 caliber firearm hidden in the car after investigating.
Officers subsequently charged a 19-year-old Evanston man with illegal possession of a firearm, police said. The man is scheduled to appear in court July 22.
