The two Evanston shootings that occurred in the past 24 hours may be related, city manager Wally Bobkiewicz said in a statement released Tuesday.

In the statement, Bobkiewicz said there is information showing the shootings “were not random acts of violence and were related.”

On Monday night, a 39-year-old Evanston man was shot in the legs several times in the 1700 block of Payne Street.

Another Evanston man, 21, was shot in the leg earlier Tuesday in the 2000 block of Dodge Avenue.

Both individuals were transported to Evanston Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Bobkiewicz also said that Evanston Police Chief Rich Eddington deployed more officers Tuesday evening and city staff are working as a resource with young people in the community.
