Food chain Culver’s seeks to expand to Evanston

Culver’s, a restaurant franchise known for its “ButterBurgers” and frozen custard, is in discussion with city officials about opening a location in Evanston, city manager Wally Bobkiewicz said Tuesday.

The restaurant is looking to build its storefront, which would include a drive-thru, in the parking lot of the strip mall on Howard Street. About four miles from Northwestern’s campus, the shopping center currently includes a Jewel-Osco, a Best Buy and an OfficeMax.

The city has been in talks with representatives of the franchise, but “they have not submitted any plans yet for moving forward with the project,” Bobkiewicz wrote in an email to The Daily.

Culver’s, which started in Wisconsin, has more than 450 stores across 20 states. The chain is also looking to open its first restaurant in the city of Chicago early next year, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday.
