Residents from the Humboldt Park neighborhood in Chicago participated in free heart screenings Saturday inside the Greater Humboldt Park Diabetes Empowerment Center. Northwestern medical students measured the blood pressures of clients at the Mother’s Day event and offered advice on healthy living as part of the center’s Keep Your Heart Health program.

Northwestern medical students have volunteered at the weekly screenings, which are held in Humboldt Park and North Lawndale, since the program started in 2013, Northwestern medical student Allison Ducharme-Smith said. The University announced last month that Northwestern Medicine is partnering with the Chicago Department of Public Health to expand the Keep Your Heart Healthy program.
