Musical dates for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and this year there are some great Chicago concerts to make your holiday more memorable than ever. Whether you’re single, taken or in some complicated mess, the Windy City has you covered with a variety of musical acts to help ring in your holiday. And since nothing says romance quite like a good love song, check out my list of shows to see if you want to have your most musical V-Day yet.

Nick Waterhouse at Metro Chicago: If you and your date are trying to find a chill concert experience, head down to Metro on Valentine’s night. Waterhouse is known for his unique R&B sound that hearkens back to decades past, so make sure to check out his concert for an old-school night of romance.

The Hood Internet at Logan Square Auditorium: For all the single ladies (and gentlemen) out there, what better way to mark the holiday than Chicago Reader’s annual Anti-Valentine’s Day Party? If you’re looking for a fun night out on the town to forget your love troubles, the party promises a performance by the Fly Honeys dance group as well as a DJ set by mash-up kings The Hood Internet.

Of course, if you aren’t feeling up to the trek downtown, you can still jam your way through the most romantic day of the year in the comfort of your own home. Take a peek at these new releases for some tunes to set the mood for an unforgettable date in Evanston.

Destiny’s Child, “Love Songs”: After an eight-year hiatus from the music world, Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams are back with a compilation album guaranteed to add a dose of romantic nostalgia to any Valentine’s Day date. “Love Songs” features classic hits like “Say My Name” and “Cater 2 U”  but also ushers in a new era for the girl group with the new track “Nuclear.”

Matt Costa, “Matt Costa”:  After breaking onto the scene with his catchy album “Unfamiliar Faces” in 2008, Matt Costa is back with a self-titled release sure to keep your Valentine’s Day date feeling fun and upbeat all night long. Costa is known for his folk-pop edge, and his personal new album will definitely give your date a memorable and unique soundtrack.
